Here is an example of a IL DCFS approved CE course

By NORTHWEST HERALD

CRYSTAL LAKE – A bubbleologist, author, speaker and entertainer will give the keynote address at a child’s world conference Nov. 14 at McHenry County College.

The 21st annual Practical Ideas for the Child’s World Conference takes place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at MCC, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.

Geoff Akins will provide the keynote address titled, “The Art of Wonder,” and will demonstrate how he uses the “wonders” of bubbles, magic and storytelling to capture and redirect a child’s attention. Participants will learn how to identify and hone their own wonder-worker skills to inspire and motivate young students, according to a news release from the college.

Pray tell, what in the heck is a "Bubbleologist" and how does this help a caseworker master knowledge of adoption and child welfare laws and gain professional proficiency? I can just picture all these dour caseworkers sitting in some conference room ignoring this lecture, playing mafiawars on their blackberries, learning little to nothing and collect six continuing education credits.

I also talked to my septic tank guy this morning. He was describing the continuing education he has to take in order to be licensed as a contractor. One thing that is expected that he pass a test periodically on building codes in order to do business in IL. Now, I'm very much in favor of a toilet that will flush and sewage is a serious health and safety issue but for a septic tank contractor to have more stringent licensure oversight than someone who is supposed to help abused children is a bit much.
Septic tank guys also have to be relicensed every few years. That's going to change with IL DCFS with the pending administrative code amendment before JCAR but before this amendment, once you got licensed, you were licensed forever and kept the license going to CE classes involving "bubbleology". WTF?
